you should know by now that my name is juliet madeline knox, but please call me jules or julie. i like them much better! although my fake i.d. says differently, i'm really eighteen years old. cool, huh? i guess i could be classified as a townie, but i prefer not to be labeled. i grew up in the beautiful city of los angeles, but i certainly like this town much more! want to know how i act? three words can tell you that: i'm determined, headstrong, and ambitious. yeah, i'm pretty amazing, aren't i? some say i look just like emma watson, though i can't see it! jealous? i know. just look at how glamorous my life really is:
though juliet's mother had a good head on her shoulders, she knew that when times were desperate, you had to do the things necessary for survival. it was about seven months into her new life in los angeles, and ella already knew that she was going bankrupt. so she turned to the business of high end escorts, and eventually became the mistress to a wealthy, important man. she was, after all, twenty four and quite attractive. ella was ashamed of it, but it put money into her dreams of becoming an actress. of course, those were dashed when she found out that she was pregnant. now the baby's father did not want this to happen. he was famous and married, and this would thoroughly throw his reputation on the rocks. he and ella were never really in love, anyway, so he essentially paid her off to keep her mouth shut and agreed to pay monthly amounts for the baby.
juliet was born on april second a few months later. ella had always wanted kids, though she had never expected one this early in life. nevertheless, juliet was her daughter and ella dropped her dreams of becoming an actress and took up a job for the government to be a good mother. juliet grew up always wondering who her father was, but ella never told her. juliet grew up to be like one of the boys, always romping around in her little denim overalls and playing pirate. the other girls frowned upon her and turned up their noses, but juliet didn't really mind--she just wanted to have a good time. but as she changed from a toddler to a girl, the effects of growing up took their toll on her. juliet tried desperately to fit in, shunning those mud puddles for stifling tea parties. it was only when she grew up again ( and there were one too many times that she had to dress up as the witch to please the other "fairies" ) that juliet realized that she should just ignore the bad things that others thought and just be herself--very cliched, but the lesson doesn't come to you just like that.
eventually juliet did grow out of her tomboyish personality in middle school. she still despised her father for just throwing her mother out and leaving a child absent of her father just because he didn't want his reputation tarnished. juliet wanted to give her mother her life back and remove their dependency on his stipends. though they were a regular item, the money wasn't that much, and it hurt for juliet to have to see her mother struggle. she put a lot of pressure on herself to always be the best so that she could go onto a good college to get herself a good job with a good salary--the usual stuff. and in her senior year, juliet landed a scholarship to ucla, where she will be heading off to in the fall.kate , sixteen , pacific .
madeline shot the smallest of smiles at the library receptionist as she walked into the small library of bay high school. the middle aged woman returned the gesture with a nod and another smile, recognizing the semi frequent visitor. madeline found the place to be like a haven for her, a place for her to getaway and relax. there was always her home, but to her, it felt so empty and lonely. it was a pretty massive mansion, and it was usually just madeline by herself with a few employees like the maids or the cook. but they didn't really talk to her. her father was usually off at work, though he did try to come home early. but that was very rare if it did actually ever go through. today, though, madeline was not there to read in her little usual cozy corner. she was stuck doing a stupid homework project. she remembered sitting in class as the teacher described the history assignment and that there would be partners. she remembered smiling at her best friend, ready to get started, until the teacher interrupted, saying that he had already assigned partners. and unfortunately for madeline, she was stuck with a certain mister eros roux. to put it simply, she didn't trust him. it wasn't like she straight up disliked him--okay, maybe a little. she had heard of his supposed womanizing ways, of how he liked to play around with girls. not that she had confirmed any of these rumors. she just accepted them once told to her. madeline had always been gullible all her life, or as the nicer people would say, naive. she didn't know why, but madeline always managed to alienate people. she was quite socially awkward, always saying things at the wrong time or not doing the right things. when people offered their hands to shake, she sometimes just stared at it. as one person said, madeline made people feel uncomfortable. she was a sweet girl, yes, but tactless a lot of times. she was silent when people wanted conversation, and if she did talk, it was usually completely random, unnecessary topics, like if tomatoes were in season or if the other had ever watched scooby doo. there was no real normal conversation to ever come out of that. most people just saw her as weird and kept away. when madeline was younger, though, she was flat out bullied for being different. at the beginning, she had tried to be stoic. that lasted for about one day. the next day she came home in tears to her babysitter, who was furious. she reported it to the principal of her school, who couldn't really do anything but suspend the offenders. but it still continued. every time the family moved, the entire process would repeat itself. it was only when madeline grew up that it began to change.
she had never been the prettiest girl ever in her life, and it wasn't true as of the moment, but when she was younger, madeline was what you could say awkward. as in unruly, curly hair and a gap between her two front teeth. the whole thing was like that ugly duckling story. madeline began to grow and change--her white, normal adult teeth came in, her hair developed a shine, and she grew taller and a little thinner. the boys changed, too. they began to notice her for her looks. though it wasn't very picture perfect when she opened her mouth to speak and all her continuing social awkwardness came out. the bullying toned down by a lot to whispers behind her back. there were few actual encounters straight to her face with flat out rudeness. instead, it resorted to a sort of game of "let's see how much fun we can have with her!" many took advantage of madeline, dragging her to clubs against her protests of being a minor and not legal and getting her insanely drunk, making it even easier to convince her to dance on tables or hook up with random hot guys. not that she was a slut. one night stands were rare, and if possible, she would keep it mum. though it didn't help that anytime the guy's name was mentioned, madeline would turn bright red. it wasn't that she was prudish--she just didn't want to be thought of as a slut as well as a weirdo.
madeline sighed as she swung her black bag onto one of the tables at the library next to the window. she chose the spot so that she could daydream and not really pay attention. it wasn't that she was a bad student--it was just now that she was stuck with a partner she didn't like, she didn't care too much. she also set down the books she picked out so that they could do "research." she sat down on one of the chairs and stared out of the window as she waited for eros to arrive.
