In February 1897, Great Britain suffered the loss of one of their most prized magic users. Mr. Crowley had been known for his outstanding magical abilities, his efforts to aid those weaker and less fortunate than him, and his new teachings of magical properties along with his work in politics with the High Court. It had been his campaign that allowed the overall community of mages to know of the newly rediscovered land, Avalon-- a thriving area of highly concentrated magic lost to the mages thousands of years ago. If one could tap into the mystery of Avalon, then all the ails of the world could be cured. No more famine, no more disease. Mr. Crowley knew how to accomplish this. He knew if he got the right equipment and the right people to help him, that he would succeed. Too bad there are those who did not wish for the peace that such power could bring and feared such a discovery.
It was on the fifteenth of the second month that they found only a finger and the letter in a mass of blown up body bits. Blown up by his own spell gone wrong, the general public was told at first but soon after word of the letter got out. The mess of Mr. Crowley was found in the estate only rumored to be his and his remains were identified only by that letter. It was all rather mysterious how it happened, and just who was the Silver Serpent and what were they talking about? An accidental suicide seemed unlikely. Too unlikely.
At first, his death was perceived as accidental. No one really knew what Mr. Crowley looked like. He had been a mysterious, elusive man and no pictures of him were published in the press. Only a few knew the man, and only fewer could tell you what he was like. However, his death was a blow to the community. He died before telling one where Avalon was or how to harness it's substantial power. It was when this letter was found by a secret source that people began to question his supposed accidental death. The Judges of the Courts were hiding something from their people. No one knew what or who the Silver Serpent was, but after the letter surfaced, more and more events started to take place. Illegitimate children claiming to be sired by Mr. Crowley arose with weird abilities. The Judges began to act differently and the High Judge disappeared. A new terrorist organization arose in the chaos. Europe was changing quickly and every mage could feel the disturbance. The discovering of Avalon was only the first sign that things were going wrong. Even in death, Mr. Crowley seemed to be changing the world.
